Remove the crust from the toast and cut into cubes. Toast in butter until golden brown on each side, set aside. Cut the lettuce into strips, rinse thoroughly and spin dry well. Peel the onion and cut into narrow rings. Mix the lettuce with the onion rings and the nuts. Stir pepper, vinegar, salt and nut oil well and fold into the leaf salad. Sprinkle with the bread cubes.
