Stir the fat until creamy and gradually add sugar, eggs and spices. Gradually stir in the flour mixed with the baking powder. When the dough becomes more solid, add enough milk to make it difficult to drop from the spoon. Pour it into a greased springform pan and smooth it down with a tablespoon, which is often dipped into the water. For the topping, peel the apples, cut them into quarters, score them a few times lengthwise and place them crosswise on the dough. Then bake the cake at 200 degrees for 45 minutes and sprinkle with powdered sugar or coat with apricot glaze as desired.
Tip: Cook only with high-quality spices – they are the be-all and end-all of a good dish!
