For the Tyrolean barley soup, cut the bacon into small cubes and fry in a high saucepan. Add the barley and roast a little. Pour in water.

Add the coarsely chopped root vegetables and the smoked meat and let the soup simmer gently for about 2 hours.

Finally, season with salt and pepper, remove the smoked meat briefly, cut into pieces, add back to the soup and serve the Tyrolean barley soup.
