For the colorful Christmas striezel, prepare the yeast dough and let it rise.

Cover a baking tray with baking paper. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.

Roll out the dough thinly on a floured work surface (into a rectangular or oval pancake). Spread with powidl.

Fold lengthwise and cut into three strips of equal width. Place strips on top of each other at the upper end and press firmly. Make a braid. Press the lower end well together again. Brush with beaten egg.

Sprinkle alternately with poppy seeds, hail sugar and flaked almonds. Place on the baking tray. Bake the colorful Christmas striezel for about 30 minutes.
