For the simple pyre first cut the Striezel (can be already hard) into slices. Whisk the eggs with milk and vanilla sugar. Soften the Striezel slices in it and let them soften a bit.

In the meantime, butter a baking dish. Wash the apples, cut them into slices and mix them with the rum raisins and the cinnamon.

Layer half of the softened Striezel slices in the baking dish and spread the apple mixture on top. Place the remaining slices of Striezel on top and if left pour the egg milk over it.

Bake in the oven at 170 °C for about 30 minutes. Serve hot and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
