Put flour and baking powder in a suitable bowl and mix. Make a dent in the center. Pour in egg, almond kernels, sugar and all spices. Cut the butter in flakes over it. Knead all ingredients together to form a smooth dough. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
Roll out the dough on the floured surface to a thickness of three to four mm. Cut out stars or other shapes and place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Brush the Guetzli with egg yolk and sprinkle them thickly with hail sugar. Bake the spiced stars in the oven heated to 200 °C on the second rack from the bottom for twelve to fifteen minutes.
