Cut the bread into slices and toast lightly. Heat the butter in a pan and fry the toast in it for 2 to 3 minutes until golden. Drain on a paper towel, then place the bread slices in a shallow ovenproof dish.

In a saucepan, bring cherries and tap water to a boil with the sugar and stir. Let it boil gently without a lid for 1000 cmin, then pour it over the bread. Put the lid on the Reindl and let it bubble gently for another 5 minutes at very low heat. Remove from heat and let cool in the Reindl.

Spread with kaymak, sour whipped cream or whipped cream and put on the table after cooling.

(*) Kaymak: a thick, heavy cream used for desserts and pastries. Sour cream or whipped cream fraiche are the best substitutes.
