Clean radicchio, wash and cut into fine strips. Pluck basil leaves, wash, pat dry, put some aside for decoration. Finely puree the rest with 40 ml oil, a little salt and pepper. Peel and crush the garlic, heat the remaining oil in a pan, sauté the radicchio and garlic briefly, deglaze with white wine and vegetable stock and bring to the boil. Reduce heat, add mascarpone and season with salt, pepper and sugar. Slice Grana Padano, serve soup with the basil oil, Parmesan shavings and basil leaves decorated and, if desired, with crispy ciabatta.
