For the apple-chocolate gugelhupf, cream the butter and 2/3 of the sugar + vanilla sugar. Then gradually stir in the yolks and continue to mix until creamy. Peel and coarsely grate the apples, pour the lemon juice over them and mix well. Beat the egg whites together with the remaining sugar and the salt until stiff. Stir the flour sifted with the baking powder into the butter dregs, stir in the rum as needed. Then mix in the ground nuts, grated chocolate and grated apples. At the very end, carefully fold in the beaten egg whites.

Pour the batter into a greased and crumb-covered cake pan and bake the apple-chocolate cake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 1 hour. (Do a needle test)
